Join our Latina Republic Reporting for Change Internship as an Immigration Reporter and embark on a journey to explore and amplify the diverse immigrant experience in the United States. This fully remote internship opportunity provides university students with a unique platform to delve into the undocumented narrative, uncover local immigrant stories, and shed light on the challenges and triumphs within various immigrant communities. 

Internship Overview:

As an Immigration Reporter intern you will have the opportunity to contribute to a comprehensive state-by-state examination of the immigrant experience in the U.S. Through a variety of storytelling efforts, including interviews, research, and news exploration, you will be at the forefront of shaping a nuanced understanding of immigration in America.

Key Responsibilities: 

Undocumented Experience: Investigate and report on the challenges faced by undocumented immigrant communities.

State-by-State Look: Explore the nuances of immigration on a state level, highlighting nonprofits that support immigrants and refugees, opportunities for immigrants, immigrant working communities and local immigrant initiatives that serve immigrants.

Local Laws Impacting Lives: Delve into local legislations affecting immigrants in areas of education, work, and transportation, uncovering the impact on their daily lives.

Historical Perspectives: Research and document the histories of immigrant communities in each state, exploring how they have built communities and businesses over time.

Anti-Immigrant Treatment: Investigate instances of anti-immigrant treatment and legislations in states with rigid immigration laws, providing insight into the challenges faced by these communities.

Advocacy and Representation: Identify government efforts to amplify immigration rights. 

Multilingual Exploration: Interns who speak Spanish are encouraged to explore local grassroots organizations, immigrant workers, local press outlets, interview immigrants, while also considering opportunities to engage across immigrant communities.

Internship Details:

Time Commitment: 10 hours per week

Location: Fully remote

Mentorship and Feedback: Weekly mentorship sessions and feedback will be provided to ensure your professional development throughout the internship.

Qualifications:

·  Strong research and writing skills

·  Empathy and cultural sensitivity

·  Interest in immigration issues and social justice

·  Spanish language skills (preferred)

·  Interest in developing interview skills and interviewing the community
