Project Engineer Intern

JOB TITLE: Project Engineer Intern (Federal Construction)

 

LOCATIONS:

  • Richmond, VA

     

POSITION TYPE: Internship (Summer and/or Fall 2026)

 

COMPENSATION: Hourly 1099 (based on experience)

 

POSITION SUMMARY

 

The Project Engineer Intern will support our project management team in the planning, coordination, and execution of federal construction projects. This role is designed for students pursuing careers in construction management, engineering, or related fields who are seeking hands-on experience in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.

 

Interns will gain exposure to all phases of construction, including preconstruction, procurement, project execution, and closeout, while working alongside experienced Project Managers, Superintendents, and Operations leadership.

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Assist Project Managers with day-to-day project coordination and administrative tasks
  • Support the preparation and organization of project documentation, including contracts, submittals, RFIs, and change orders
  • Help track project schedules, milestones, and deliverables
  • Coordinate with subcontractors and vendors to obtain pricing, proposals, and status updates
  • Participate in project meetings and assist in documenting meeting minutes and action items
  • Assist in reviewing plans, specifications, and bid documents
  • Support procurement activities, including material tracking and delivery coordination
  • Assist with project cost tracking, budget updates, and invoice processing
  • Conduct site visits (as applicable) to observe construction progress and support field teams
  • Help maintain organized project files and ensure document control procedures are followed
  • Support closeout activities, including O&M manuals and punch list tracking
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support project and company objectives

QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in:
    • Construction Management
    • Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical)
    • Or related field
  • Strong interest in construction project management and/or federal contracting
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment
  • Willingness to learn and take initiative

 

 

PREFERRED (NOT REQUIRED)

 

  • Prior internship or coursework related to construction or engineering
  • Exposure to project management or scheduling software
  • Basic understanding of construction drawings and specifications

 

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

 

  • Ability to pass background checks as required for federal project sites
  • Eligibility to work in the United States
  • Willingness to travel to project sites as needed

Successful interns may be considered for full-time employment upon graduation, with a pathway into Assistant Project Manager roles within the organization.
