
Student Assistant (Digital Experience), Ref # 8984
ITS will not offer permanent employment to any candidate unless the candidate provides documentation that they are authorized to accept work in the United States on a permanent basis. Minimum Qualifications
- Must be a US citizen or foreign national eligible to work in the United States
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Must be currently attending a New York State college, university or graduate program, or be a resident of New York State attending a college, university or graduate program outside of New York State
- Must have completed a minimum of one (1) year as a student at a degree-granting two or four-year college or university (completion of one year’s worth of academic credits over a more extended period of time may qualify part-time students) OR currently enrolled graduate student or accepted in a graduate degree program
- Must have a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 or equivalent to a C.
Duties Description
The Student Assistant (UX Designer) will work closely with our UX designers and front-end developers to maintain and enhance our Design System Figma libraries, contribute to usability research, and help improve design documentation for teams across the state.
Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
Maintain and expand Figma libraries to ensure consistency between design components and coded implementations.
Support user research efforts, including usability testing and gathering feedback from state agencies and development teams.
Document design decisions in our reference site to help teams apply NYSDS components effectively.
Collaborate with developers to ensure smooth handoff between design and code.
Assist in accessibility testing to confirm that components and patterns meet WCAG standards.
Contribute to visual and interaction design for new components and system updates.
Preferred Skills:
Currently pursuing a degree in UX design, human-computer interaction, or a related field
Familiar with Figma and eager to deepen their knowledge of design systems
Passionate about inclusive and accessible design
Comfortable working in a collaborative environment with designers, developers, and stakeholders
Detail-oriented with strong written and visual communication skills
Bonus Skills:
Experience with HTML, CSS, or front-end development
Understanding of accessibility best practices (ARIA, WCAG, etc.)
Familiarity with content design and information architecture
