Summer Seasonal Librarian/Archivist (On Campus Housing & Meals Available)
- The Librarian/Archivist is responsible for the distribution and collection of books and maintenance of the card catalog and historical documents.
- The Librarian is supervised by the Arts & Humanities Coordinator.
- The librarian should possess the computer skills necessary to electronically catalog books and historical Silver Bay material. A familiarity with a card check-out system and ability to keep track of books that are out is also helpful. Ordering library supplies, removal of outdated or worn books, and keeping an inventory of needed supplies is also a necessary function of the position.
Essential Job Functions:
- Assist guests in finding and checking out reading material.
- Collect books when they are due and return them to the appropriate shelf.
- Review the materials currently in the library and help separate historical Silver Bay material from general reading material. This archival identification is the first step in establishing a Silver Bay museum.
- Update the card catalog by accurately entering the information contained on the cards into a computer based catalog. Identify a children's section where they can gain easy access to age-appropriate reading material.
- Review reading materials identifying those that are inappropriate.
- Review periodical magazines and discard outdated material.
- Work with volunteer members to further develop a circulation program.
- Any other duties as assigned.
